Assignment - Write Response on Are Leaders Born or Become Discussion.
Description - There are different arguments about whether nurses are born or made. Even though some skills may be born natural with people, this does not make them great leaders. Similarly, leaders can learn and grow from different situations in their lives. So, it can be said that even though some traits are genetic, leaders also learn from their environment. So strong leaders can be made.
Leadership in nurses is required at each level and across various settings. With proper collaboration, nurses can learn how to be an effective leader in various settings. Moreover, with the change in time, nurses are expected to be advocates for their patients and serve a leadership role (Henkel, 2019). Moreover, compared to the past, the changing healthcare settings require nurses to be leaders and provide quality care. Many nurses are exploring their skills and serving their part in healthcare management.
From the analysis, it can be said that leaders are made. For instance, in part, nurses were not allowed to use their power in healthcare settings. Moreover, nurses couldn't contribute to decision-making. However, now nurses are learning how to be active, and many are emerging as leaders. Many factors help in making leaders, such as improving work processes, creating integrated practices, establishing organizational policy, learning technical skills, etc. (Sadayappan, 2019).,
Finally, it can be said that leadership is not needed to be in are; many people grow to be leaders. Sometimes this development comes as a result of experience. Such as, nurse leaders at the executive level learned ways to position their competencies effectively. Development as a leader can also be achieved through training programs and education (BOGDANOVA & KUZMINA, 2020). There is a variety of effective leadership programs that nurses can use to become effective leaders.
A leader can also be achieved through more formal education and training programs. The wide range of effective leadership programs now available for nurses is illustrated by the examples described below. The challenge is to utilize these opportunities better to develop a greater number of nursing leaders.
