Assignment Title - Individual Report

Details of what you are expected to do:

1. Rationale - A financial manager needs to possess the business skills to interpret financial information, and to present such information in a standard format.

2. The learning outcomes being assessed

A) Have an understanding of the organisational structures and stakeholder relationships within the events industry;

B) To have an awareness of the different ways events organisations approach and/or impact on contemporary societal challenges including sustainability;

3. Overview of assignment

Write an individual report of no more than 1,500 words that introduces the event company of your choice, specifically its purpose, size and recent performance, and main products/ services and target market(s), and analyses its contemporary societal challenges.

Based on your analysis, outline and briefly discuss the main challenges faced by the company (including sustainability) and the opportunities available to it, going forward (and how it might address or capitalise on these). You must show engagement with relevant academic and industry sources in your report (books, journal articles, annual company reports, etc.).

You must also acknowledge the source of all ideas and material featured in your essay using the Harvard System, and will be penalised for referencing errors and/ or poor source attribution. Be sure to read and follow the University's guidance on plagiarism and how to avoid it in your written work.

A suggested structure for your report is below (with indicative word count for each section):

Introduction to your company. Recent history, current operation and business model, facts and stats, etc. (300 words)

The discussion of the main challenges faced by the company (including sustainability) and the opportunities available to it - present your findings. (900 words)

Summary of main challenges and opportunities for the company. (300 words)

List of references. These must be in the Harvard style. (n/a)

Assessment criteria -

Knowledge and understanding of the chosen company, the sector and the external environment, derived from academic, industry and media information sources.

Awareness and understanding of an event organisation approach and/or impact on contemporary societal challenges including sustainability.

Dentification of real-world problems, possibilities and potential solutions.

Presentation, including organisation of material, use of academic English, spelling and grammar, and adherence to citation and referencing conventions. (Word count 1,500)
