Assignment - Final Project: Digital Culture
Instructions for the Final Project - The Final Project is divided into several steps. In compliance with the Exit Profile for all BXE courses, you are required to write on a topic that is specific to your program of study; therefore, you are to write a persuasive essay about a specific way in which some aspect of your discipline is impacted by digital culture or vice-versa. Your paper must take the form of an argument, which means you are to take a position based on a thesis and defend it.
Part 1 - The Proposal/Meeting
A meeting with me is a pre-requisite for the rest of the project and none of the other steps will be accepted until your project has been approved. On the day of your meeting, come prepared with a couple of topics when you meet with me individually.
Part 2 - The Research Portfolio
This assignment entails a preliminary gathering of information and the creation of a thesis statement for your project. On a Google Doc, you will share with me a Works Cited page with a series of eight embedded links, along with a line or two for each one explaining whether the link is a primary or secondary source, how it is relevant to your topic, and what makes it a valid, authoritative source. You will also hand in a thesis statement along with a short description of your topic.
Part 3 - The Oral Presentation
In 4 to 8 minutes, you will briefly introduce your topic to the class, state your thesis/argument and generate interest in the subject as you walk us through 3 to 6 relevant websites.
The presentation dates will be randomly assigned as soon as I have your Proposals. Keep in mind that due to the difficulty of fitting everyone in, no extensions can be granted; a failure to show up on the day of your presentation will result in a failure for this part of the course.
Part 4 - The Outline
The Outline is a brief summary of your main points.
Part 5 - Peer Reviews
Your paper will be peer reviewed anonymously in class by a number of your classmates. There is no mark for this stage of the project, but papers that are not peer reviewed will not be accepted.
The Final Paper - The Final Paper is the culmination of the project. After give back your Portfolio, you are free to begin the paper, perhaps developing new ideas or letting go sections that no longer seem relevant, and perhaps developing a new line of research where support felt flimsy.
