1914 devolved into stalemate because actions on the Western Front, the Eastern Front and at sea stalled. This led to both sides on the Western Front digging in. This in turn produced one of the most infamous parts of World War I - "trench warfare".

Write narrative analysis of what happened on the Western front, the Eastern front, and at sea, that produced stalemate. In order to do this successfully, it is necessary to examine particular battles. These include the Battles of the Marne, the Battles of Tannenberg and Masurian Lakes, and actions in the North Sea, Mediterranean Sea and in the Asian China Sea, the Indian Ocean and along the East and West African Seas. Concentrate on creating a narrative for each of these three fronts that focuses on what happened at one specific encounter and how it produced stalemate. Use a separate paragraph for each front.

Then do an internet search that will give you some idea of what trench warfare was Describe its development and contours. Then pick out something from your search that you want to share with your fellow students, something that seemed particularly memorable or important to you. Make sure to cite a source and feel free to include a picture if you like.
