Essay
Task: Using the literature and case studies to justify your points, write an essay that critically reflects on what community means and its implications for community engagement.
• In this essay you are expected to
• Find a number of sources on the idea of community (10 minimum)
• Organise these sources into a written story about community - i.e. what does it tell you about the definition of/characteristics of community
• Please note you may end up writing an essay that either examines the idea of community more generically /broadly or you may write an essay that goes through the literature on a specific community /community context (i.e. health, architecture, Indigenous etc.) It is up to you, both will be fine (about 60 - 70% of your essay, with intro).
• In the final part of your essay (about 30% of your essay), you will discuss (up to a page - no more - MAX) why understanding the notion of community is relevant to community engagement.
• TIP: do not make the mistake of writing an essay about the definition of community engagement, or make it the biggest part of your essay.

You will be assessed against the following criteria: -
• Effective use and appropriate choice of peer reviewed sources to make your argument
• Demonstrated extent and understanding of the references when applied to the notion of community
• Demonstrated understanding of what the notion of community means
• Demonstrated understanding of the link between community and community engagement
• Demonstrated capacity to use case studies to highlight your points
• Presentation - demonstrated effort at and achievement in relation to grammar, spell check, typos, how essay is set out, use of references, consistency in formatting etc.
