Problem: Why Do Politics Matter To Me

In this section, we focused on modern politics in America. Our attention was placed on how citizens are connected to their government. We learned ways to maximize our political power beyond merely voting. We took an in-depth look at interest groups, political parties, and the mass media. All of these are important topics for you, a participatory member of a democracy. In addition, you should by now have solidified the habit of reading a good credible newspaper or two.

By now you are realizing that politics is a vast subject with many facets. You may be beginning to think about how what happens in the political realm impacts you and your family. That is really the point of this problem. Here, we want to get to know you a little better. Who are you? What is going on in your world? Do you recognize, in the current world, some of the issues discussed in this section? Do you have a position? How do these things matter, to you? Why do these things matter, to you?

Write an essay in which you address these issues and questions. It is an open-ended problem. That is, you can take any approach that you want in answering the question: Why do Politics Matter To Me? Be sure to include evidence that you recognize and comprehend the topics and issues presented in this section. Also, demonstrate that you are starting to follow and understand things happening in the world around you, as evidenced by connections to credible sources about current events.
