LAY OUT OF ABC Toy Shop
Imagine that you still work at that very busy toy shop- ABC Toy Shop. You have 7 other team members, plus your boss/owner who work with you.
The boss wants to introduce a new system in the store so customers can find what they are looking for easily. At the moment, all the toys are laid out based on the manufacturer of the toys. For example, all the Lego blocks are in one aisle. All the toys made by a company called Duplo are in another aisle. The store has a payment kiosk at the front. The rest of the shop floor has 5 parallel aisles full of toys and one shelf at the back wall. Usually, customers get very confused about how to find age- appropriate toys for their children. Sometimes they just look in for a minute or two and then walk out as the display is not very appealing or customer friendly.
The current layout of the shop is shown below:
Your boss has asked you to lead a team meeting to develop a creative solution to how the store layout can be changed. He is willing to invest up to $10,000 to improve the layout and the resultant customer experience. But he wants you to come up with some creative ideas that will attract more customers to the shop, help in them buying more toys and also have a great experience. He also wants you to be mindful of the health and safety of the children and other customers, and the employees when you design the new layout. The store has a Health and Safety Manual for your reference.
The owner of the shop also wants to expand the product range, but that is not a priority at this stage.
Your team comprises 8 staff, plus your boss/owner (9 people in total, including you). However, only four out of the nine people can participate in the team meeting. The other five team members are not available on the day.
