Write discourse analysis related to maternal & infant health? Analyse the meaning, language and messages of written text or images in its social context, (the media) that represents pregnancy, labour, birth, the postpartum period or breastfeeding and how it shapes and reflects reality. Assessment details Students are to source either ONE image or text that focuses on the social aspects of communication and the ways people use language to achieve a specific effect (e.g to build trust, to create doubt, to evoke emotion). Materials that are suitable for discourse analysis include:
· Books, newspapers, and periodicals
· Marketing material, such as brochures and advertisements
· Government documents
· Websites, forums, social posts and comments
· Interviews and conversations
When you conduct your discourse analysis, focus on:
1. Your motivations for selecting the source words)
2. Gather factual details of when and where the content was created, who the author is, who published it
3. Establish the social context in which the material was produced and intended to be received
4. The purposes and effects of different types of messages and the way they are interpreted by consumers
Approach to analysing the material Closely examine various elements of the material - such as words, sentences, paragraphs, and overall structure. Analyse the selected material for statements that reflect or relate to values, beliefs, practices, and ideologies (personal and political). When referring to a discourse stimuli (Eg. photograph / cartoon / advertisement / Instagram image or video / YouTube video / brochure / image from a film ) in your writing, you must cite that source in-text according to APA 7 referencing style.
