Write an essay on the book holes. The topic is symbolism.

My claim is: In "Holes", Lous Sachar uses symbolism to convey both positive and negative actions that take place in the book.

Three topic sentences:

1. Yellow spotted lizards are used in the novel to make camp green lake look like a menacing place.

2. The symbol of onions is used to represent happiness and motivation. It also helps in health and healing.

3. Holes symbolize negativity, misfortune, hopelessness and destructive physical labor.

Evidence: TS - topic sentence

1. "That's the worst thing that can happen to you. You will die a slow painful death."

2. "If you take a bad boy and make him dig holes every day in the sun, it will make him a good boy."

3. "Good for the digestion, the liver, the stomach, the lungs, the heart and the brain."
