Write an essay of at least 1,500 words about one of the three topics discussed in class. Research your chosen topic and develop an informed opinion before taking a position. Argue your position using evidence you discover in your research. Your thesis, or claim, must be a policy statement (i.e., something should be done about something). Essays must be typed, double-spaced with 1" margins on all sides, use 12-point, Times New Roman font. The essay must be formatted using APA style and include a cover page, page numbers, in-text citations, and a References page.

Cover Page · Running head: [TITLE] · Heading	The cover page contains a running head, a title, your name (with middle initial, but without prefixes or suffixes), and your associated organization (i.e., University of the Pacific).
Introduction · topic sentence · body of the introduction · thesis statement (claim)	The topic sentence states the issue. The body organizes the details of an issue in logical order from least to most important. The claim is your position on an issue; specifically, what should be done about it.
Body paragraphs · reasons and evidence · acknowledgement of counterclaims · rebuttals	Body paragraphs will explain the details of both sides of an issue. Present evidence which supports your claim and refutes any counterclaims.
Conclusion	The conclusion restates your claim and expresses what your evidence has done to support it.
References	The References page lists information that comes from external sources. For the purposes of this assignment, use APA citation style (to be discussed).
