Management Communication Assignment -
The assignment contains two sections: editing a previously written memo and writing an informative memo. You may refer to Competitive Communication.
Section I: Editing in Context: Text Revision
Scenario: You have accepted a position in research and development of Textra. Since peer-editing groups are common in your division, you are not surprised when another manager asks for your help in editing a co-worker's twelve-sentence memo. You may make any changes according to the categories of editing we've discussed in class and noted in the checklist below. But do not change the order of the sentences or the paragraphs. You should be able to reduce the word count by at least 100 words from the original 250 words.
1) Edit the sentences to correct for all the problems they contain. Use cross-outs when appropriate to indicate the issue and below the unedited version, write your suggested revision in the space provided.
2) Note your specific reason for making this revision based on the type of problem (i.e. conciseness: hidden verb in xyx OR grammar: parallelism with xyz).
3) Copy your revised sentences and put it in a memo format on a fresh page at the end of this section.
Section II: Writing in Context: Order in the World of Information
INFORMATIVE MEMO (Chpt. 1-2, Appendix A)
Write an e-mail to inform a friendly reader of a topic and demonstrate the principles of organization for informative writing. Topics may be: work-related, community interest, or issue identification. I will assume the reader's point of view when evaluating the memo. You may include "author's comments" prior to the memo to provide background, as shown in the sample documents in Appendix A.
