To Whom It May Concern:
In February of 2020, I purchased a Kickr Core smart trainer from your store (Fondo Racing Bikes). Since it was the start of the pandemic and no one knew what to expect, I thought I had better get a trainer to continue with my bike training in the event that there would be a full lockdown as was seen happening in other parts of the world.
Having never owned or used a smart trainer before, I was uncertain about the assembly of the machine and felt it was in my best interest to request that your store complete the set up for me to avoid any damage to the trainer and/or my bike. The mechanic on duty that day gladly agreed to do this set up and seemed confident in his abilities to complete the task.
I took my bike and trainer home and enjoyed the excitement that indoor riding brought me. However, I noticed that there were some white flakes of paint on the floor next to my trainer after a ride. I also noticed that there were metal shavings on and around the trainer. This concerned me. At around the same time, my trainer started making loud noises, so I promptly brought both the bike and the trainer in to have your mechanics look at them. It was discovered that the trainer was malfunctioning and needed to be sent to Wahoo for repairs. The bike was inspected, and it was discovered that the white flakes of paint and metal shavings were coming off my bike (please see the enclosed photos). The cause of this was due to improper installation of the bike on the trainer. I was also informed that the metal shavings would affect the integrity of the bike, and I was advised not to ride the bike outdoors.
This news was very surprising and frustrating for me, since it was your shop mechanic who "confidently" installed my bike on the trainer. The damage done was a direct result of the incompetence of the mechanic (incidentally, that mechanic is apparently no longer on staff). Although the bike is a 2013 model, it was in almost new condition as it has only been ridden outside a handful of times. I know that Trek will no longer cover the warranty on the frame due to its age, but I believe that your shop is responsible for the damages and you should either replace the frame or compensate me for the purchase of a new frame.
I look forward to hearing your response regarding this situation and hope that you will do the right thing in fixing this situation.
Sincerely,
Stuart Superfast
