In this exercise you will write about two exchanges that you engage in. One that may be characterised as "Generalised" and another that is "Balanced."

First explain the exchange:

1) Who was involved besides yourself?
2) Who was the "giver" and who was the "receiver" in the exchange?
3) What rules did you follow in making the exchange?
4) What goals did you or the other person seek in the exchange?
5) What social and cultural institutions were present in the exchange?
6) Do you owe anything to someone else as a result of the exchange (or does the other person owe you something in return)?

The goal of this exercise is to encourage you to think critically about your interactions and how economic practises play a powerful role in your relationships.

You will need to demonstrate that you understand these two different forms of exchange. You may explore exchanges that you have engaged in Canada or elsewhere. The exchanges need not be something you have done recently, but may refer to events in the past. You also might be the giver or the receiver in the exchange.
