Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to evaluate a single piece of research. In order to do this, you must first be able to critically read the research piece and the issues discussed therein. Once you understand what the piece means, you need to communicate your opinions about it in writing. You do not need to write to any audience specifically, and your writing can be personal if you wish.

Method: First read the piece "The Lonely Death of George Bell" by N.R. Klienfield. Perform a says/does analysis of the piece if necessary to find its thesis and other controlling ideas. Construct an introduction section for your paper that is attention getting, leads into the subject matter, and explains the significance of the topic. Then, summarize the essay in one to two paragraphs, making sure to include attributive tags and accurate, specific paraphrase. The thesis for this assignment will be your personal opinion of "The Lonely Death of George Bell." You may place your thesis anywhere in the text of your paper. For the body of the paper you will justify your thesis using your own personal experiences and examples from Klienfield's piece. Please quote several times. Spend most of your paper's length on writing the body. Make sure the paragraphs are unified, coherent, and cohesive, and check your MLA formatting and grammar several times. Once the body is finished, construct your conclusion by restating the important information from your body and leading out of the topic. I do not need a Works Cited page for this assignment. Please format the paper according to MLA guidelines discussed in class.

The paper should be typed and double spaced, and a rough draft must be ready for class peer review in one week. The paper should be 3 pages long. The paper will be graded on quality of introduction and conclusion, quality of summary, quality of MLA documentation/conventions of grammar, and quality of response to the piece and justification of your thesis.
