Part 3. Respond to two classmates BENJAMIN- There are many different reasons in which a person may keep a secret with the first being to protect someone you care about. An example would be if your sister told you something in private you wouldn't mention it out of respect for her. Another reason to keep a secret could be because your scared such as David was in Not Close Enough for Comfort. Keeping secrets because your scared can hurt relationships with some of your closest family members and friends. I believe we get to the point of telling a secret we are expecting it to a huge ordeal for whoever we are approaching with it, however, I think typically in the end whether they realize it or not the one telling the secret is the one who benefits from the shared information. It is a burden lifted of the shoulders of the one who finally gets to tell or finally has gained the courage to speak up

DAVID- Secrets can define us, by letting them out and taking responsibility for the truth, or they can divide us by the same. Some secrets are fun, and you can't hold them in any longer because the only thing in this world that your loved one wanted, is already secured and wrapped up perfectly in its paper and ribbon. Other secrets are painful to let escape and can ruin relationships or dash dreams.

Secrets have been around for as long as people can communicate (how ironic since the definition of a secret is the lack thereof). Sometimes we keep them to protect the innocence of a memory or a legend in the family tree. Other times we do it out of embarrassment of what the secret may reveal about our own choices however quick and ignorant they were. The thing is, secrets are the art of living a lie. You may not be telling a lie, but by withholding information you are manipulating their knowledge of a situation. This secret will slowly build a wall of separation between you and the one you are keeping the secret from. It can also cause you to stop sharing with someone, in turn eroding the relationship and trust as you discourage deep and meaningful conversation. This makes us rather shallow and affects our long-term ability to form deep, lasting relationships.

If we are letting the cat out of the bag, then we are attempting to reset the field, and bring all parties in on the information at hand. But timing is everything, and we need to gauge that before just blabbing it to the world. Hopefully, the intent of sharing it, is to bring everyone closer togeter, and eliminate any disruptions or issues with trust. If our secret is painful, we should probably seek professional help on how to bring it out, so that we can think through all the scenarios and make the best choice on how to bring it about. We really should only seek to share a secret, if it ultimately helps someone, and the result works to bring people closer together.

As good-heartedted human beings, we should strive to keep from making choices that cause us to form secrets. Sometimes, though, secrets are not of our choosing, and when we are let in on one, we have to chose how to handle it. If our character precedes us, the individual telling us their secret, will know our predisposition beforehand, and hopefully not put us in a position to damage that relationship by confiding in us.

The less secrets you have, the less you have to worry and stress about accidentally letting it out or lying about it to keep it hidden. Keep you life free of self caused anxiety, and be free, living a life without secrets.
