Task and Presentation
Length: 7000 words
It is your responsibility to decide upon the type of Final Report you wish to submit and notify the Course Co-ordinator in your Pre-Placement Report.
The format for the presentation of the final HIE Report should follow the below structure:
Type A Final Report: Departmental Analysis and Evaluation• Cover/Title Page• Acknowledgements - acknowledge people, institutions and/or organisations who have helped you carry out the research or write your report.• Executive Summary- concise summary of main findings• Table of Contents• List of Figures/Tables/Images/Appendices• Introduction and Background to the Report - how you are going to address the assessment task (methodology) i.e. what you did and how you did it.• Body of Report - the aim of the Final Report is to demonstrate your understanding of the connection between your observations and experience in the workplace and the skills and knowledge gained in previous study in the MIHM. A literature review identifying themes relevant to organisational analyses would be relevant. The following headings (or similar) should be used to analyse your organisation:o External/Industry Environment Analysis - you may wish to use Porter's Five Forces model or a similar model, together with a PEST analysis.o Internal Organisation Analysis - this section should include:- Organisational Diagnosis: critical evaluation of your orientation period and induction- Organisational structure and interpretation (incorporate Mission, Vision and Values; Frameworks; Systems); critical evaluation of your department and its relationship with other departments; communication lines - who do people report to in the formal organisation; management roles, responsibilities and interpersonal skills- Reflect on the goals you set in the Pre-Placement Report. How realistic were these goals and how well you think you achieved them? How will your goals change for your future career? Use Quinn et al (2007) Competing Values Approach to show which areas you have improved on and discuss how.o SWOT Analysis: Using the above research, identify the internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats of your organisation. Consider and review operational and practical aspects and consider how theories developed during the MIHM program are reflected in the work environment.• Conclusion - summary of the most significant information/results/findings. You should not include any new material in this section. Sometimes you could indicate some areas where your research has limits or barriers or where further research would be useful.• Recommendations - this includes suggestions for what needs to be done as a result of your findings. Recommendations are usually listed in order of priority.• References - Harvard style in alphabetical order.• Appendices - information that is not essential to explain your findings, but that supports your analysis (especially repetitive or lengthy information), validates your conclusions or pursues a related point.
