The idea of power has been debated since the times of the Greek Philosophers. To Machiavelli, a medieval thinker, power meant an ability of an actor to make other actors do what they would not otherwise do. Emanuel Kant added a different dimension. In his view, power had to have a purpose. it was to bring stability and world peace and support the right moral behavior. But power must not be confused with influence dominance or violence. The first is a specific dimension of power; the second is the effect, and the third, is a tool of power. of these can be used to make others do what they may be reluctant to do.
