Part I: Choosing Your Topic and a Format

A. List your two chosen societies or civilizations. Include the time period you will cover for each society or civilization.

Part II: Your Research

A. Primary Sources.

1. Using an APA-formatted reference for each, list four works (literature, philosophy, theology, art, architecture, or music) that express the theme you chose in Step B. These works are your primary sources required for the final project.

2. Provide a brief annotation for each source, explaining its content and how it will support your Final Project.

Remember: You should list two from each of the societies or civilizations you chose in Step A above.

B. Scholarly Secondary Sources

Remember: You should list one source relevant to each of the societies or civilizations you chose in Step 1 above.

Part III: Drafting an Introduction and Thesis Statement

A. Preliminary Introduction.

The preliminary introduction does not have to be perfectly formulated at this point. Think about the essential background information an audience would need to put your thesis in context.

B. Thesis Statement.

The last sentence of your introductory paragraph should be a thesis statement to indicate the main idea of your final project. For more help developing your thesis statement, see Writing a Thesis Statement.
