2. Writing: Write a three-page paper that addresses the following three (3) questions: The Rule of Benedict is a constitution that regulates the lives of monks living together in a monastery. It discusses how monks are to live their lives and the reasons why they should live that way. Drawing on evidence from the text, present a detailed portrait of how monks are to spend their time (i.e., what goals they are to seek, what activities they are to practice, how they are to dress, eat, sleep, etc.). Discuss as well some of Benedict''s reasons for believing that monks should live that way. John Carroll believes that the Benedictine Rule fosters "ecological living" by monks. What are some practices or attitudes that Carroll believes characterize "ecological living"? What are three different ways that the Benedictine Rule expects or encourages monks to live ecologically?
