Discussion Post: The Intriguing Hongya Cave in Chongqing
Using what you wrote for last module's freewrite, edit the piece into short format. This is for a blog, so keep your writing punchy.
Purpose
The purpose of this work is to use the reductive process to revise a piece into a short format.
When writing a short form piece, you can still keep the principles of long form writing in mind. Long form writing usually tells a story. But in a short piece, you can still craft a story, even over a much smaller space. Simply put, the most effective way to engage your reader is to tell them a story. So, even if you're writing about facts, you can structure the piece in such a way that it has a narrative flow.
By narrative flow, we mean that your piece will have a beginning, middle, and an end. We usually think of these terms for writing a fictional piece, and certainly it is easy to understand the ideas of a beginning, middle, and end in terms of a fictional story like a fairy tale or a movie plot.
