Write a 10 pages research paper, that need investigate a particular person, or event or trend of either foreign or indigenous origins that has shaped Shanghai China as a city in the 20th century.

We have not delved into the history of Shanghai to any degree, beyond the history of planning. Its history however shapes the city. Shanghai as a city was shaped by man forces, and many people from many countries, during the 20th Century.

This assignment is an opportunity for you to investigate a particular person, or event, or trend, of either foreign or indigenous origins, that has shaped Shanghai as a city in the 20th Century. Your topic can be a specific person, Chinese or western (e.g. planner Richard Paulick, architect Henry Murphy, Victor Sassoon) the architecture of a particular period, an urban design/redevelopment project (historic or contemporary) fashion or other cultural trend, or political movement of significance in Shanghai.

It can be a policy issue.

Prepare a paper +1- 10 pages in length, plus a PowerPoint presentation of 5 slides or less on your chosen topic for presentation to the class. Organize your paper as a briefing paper, with a short introduction, relevant facts, your assessment of the importance of your subject, and conclusions. Provide citations as appropriate. Photos, maps and other graphic images are encouraged. Be colorful.
