Assessment - Case Study
Choose one of the following case studies and write a report about the international acquisition. In writing your report, you should address the following points:
- Would you consider the selected acquisition to be successful?
- What have been the key features of the acquisition?
- What are the strengths of this acquisition?
- And what would you say are the weaknesses of the acquisition?
Your report should provide a Political, economic, social, technological, environmental and legal and Environmental(PESTLE) overview of the acquiring and acquired company's countries.
Also, provide an overview of the organizational culture of the selected company (Tata Motors or Geely).
The two topics are:
- Geely's acquisition of Volvo
- Tata Motors' acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover
STRUCTURE OF THE REPORT
The structure of your report can be as follows (this is just an example of the structure you can use. You can follow any that you feel comfortable with as long as all the issues identified have been covered):
Introduction: Briefly states which case study is being followed, and the structure of the report (the next section will provide overview of the acquisition etc).
Overview of the acquisition: This could include information such as when the acquisition took place, the amount paid for the company, the form it took place (full acquisition and ownership or partial), and how long the process took.
PESTLE analysis: here you will provide a PESTLE analysis of the two countries (India and UK or China and Sweden). The key here is to identify the similarities and differences between the two countries. This should not be a generic PESTLE and where possible should provide relevant data on the industry being analyzed.
Organizational Culture: Overview of the organization in terms of how they are managed (ownership and control). Using the information available, choose one of the four organizational cultures covered in this subject and explain why you believe this to be the culture.
Analysis of the acquisition: What are the strengths and weaknesses of the acquisition? Have they been successful? Why or why not? If they have been successful, what issues could they face in the future and what can they do to continue to be successful. If not, then what improvements would they need to make to address the concerns?
Length: 3000 words (excluding table of contents, abstract, reference list and appendices).
