Question: Select one lesson from those provided by your course instructor (see below).
Thoroughly review the lesson and each of the components. As you begin to make adaptations, be sure to spread them throughout the lesson component.
Select two students with exceptional learning needs who are receiving their services in a general education classroom. You must choose one student from category A and one from category B (for example, a student with CI and a student with PI). Provide a full and detailed description of each student as an individual: their family background, interests, strengths, learning needs, and any other relevant details. Describe the exceptional needs of each selected student providing enough specificity to justify the proposed adaptations.
Category A: CI, ASD, EI/BD, LD, OHI (including ADHD)
Category B: SLI, VI, HI, PI (physical impairment)
Create and describe easily implemented, inexpensive adaptations (e.g. cognitive or physical) to the lesson for each of the two students. The adaptations should address the child's learning needs (as related to the disability for which they meet the eligibility requirements).
Develop and state rationales for each of the adaptations.
Write a reflection statement. You can reflect on the process of completing this assignment, and/or the experience of taking this course more broadly. Discuss how your beliefs about students with exceptionalities have changed. Include a component that discusses the next steps you would take if your lesson was not successful and students did not meet the learning objectives.
