Original question was: Describe the project you selected for the Topic 8 assignment. Explain why the project is important. Discuss two different forms you could use to share the results. Discuss when each form would be appropriate and how the target audience helps to determine the communication method.

Student response - The article I chose was labeled, "Dr. Sanjay Gupta on medical marijuana: We are in an age of wisdom, but also an age of foolishness". At first glance, I took this message as a negative toward marijuana, when in fact, the article does nothing but preach it's effectiveness and how it has such an important medicinal property to it.

Upon clicking on the link, I thought, "Oh great, another person stating, 'while marijuana is great, we are being foolish by thinking it can cure everything'", when, in reality, the article discussed many benefits, such as helping a 12 year old girl who used to have 300 seizures a day who now only has about 3-4 a MONTH (Gupta, 2019). The article also discussed how the legislation in 2018 turned in a single day from "marijuana being taboo" to CBD becoming legal to sell and buy (Gupta, 2019). In my opinion, the article makes this seem like another "anti-marijuana" piece, but in reality, the author was referring to people being "foolish" because they are still falling into the old ways of viewing marijuana in a negative light (Gupta, 2019). If I were the article, I would have titled it something along the lines of, "Marijuana: Close, but not Cigar (or Blunt)" because I am a fan of punny, funny titles. If not this, than something that shines the benefits of marijuana in a more positive light and state that we have made great strides, but we still need to showcase the scientific findings so the people who think marijuana is for lazy bums is erased and rewritten.
