The paper must follow all MLA conventions. Look at OWL at Purdue for formatting instructions.

We've discussed identity formation all semester long and the tremendous forces acting on us to shape the many identities we present as we move about in our world. For your last paper, you will do research on one of the topics below, and you will drill down as much as possible.

For example, you will not write an essay on gender in general. And you will also not write a paper on the biology or sociology of gender. Instead, you will look at how male gender is constructed in a GI Joe action figure or a game like Fortnite--that's the level of specificity I'm looking for. Below are some ideas for topics around identity. Interspersed are potential examples you can look at. However, this final assignment is a free-for-all as far as topic selection goes. Have fun, and remember you are free to do this alone or with others.

The key is to be as specific as possible. Your thesis will argue the forces that help to create the identity you are discussing. Is it an identity created by advertisement? Balkanization? In opposition to something? Please, feel free to discuss your topics with me during office hours to bore down more to a strong thesis.
