Aspirin is known as an analgesic (pain reliever). Some of the pain relief and fever-reducing actions of aspirin are accomplished through attenuating the inflammation response. One of the actions of aspirin is inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme. By what mechanism does aspirin inhibit the enzyme in question? 4.) Look up the chemical structure of ibuprofen. Do you think it inhibits the inflammation cascade in the same way as aspirin? Why or why not?
