Final Response Letter

Your final paper will consist of a 2 - 6 page (double spaced, plus title page, abstract, and reference page) response to the letter you receive, offering advice based on the interpersonal communication literature. This will be written in first person, from you to your classmate. Some of you will write from the heart with a lot of experience. Others will rely only on the scholarly works and keep a professional tone. In addition to your lecture notes and text, you should cite and refer to at least two journal articles focusing on interpersonal issues. In many cases, it may be more appropriate to cite up to five journal articles, depending on the complexity of the issue. You must use latest edition APA formatting as you mention these sources and offer your advice.

Your response letter should include an APA title page, abstract, and bibliography written in the latest edition APA style. The running head on your response should match the running head on the letter you received. Whenever possible, these response letters will be returned to the person who submitted the question. This is a real person. Please take a caring approach to your classmate. This will be submitted to blackboard by 12/1 and you must bring a printed hard copy to class on 12/1 for distribution to your classmate.

Part III will be graded on its overall style and content, as well as your ability to follow directions. Thus, you should consider the following criteria as you write and edit your paper.

1) Did you answer the question and offer advice based on communication literature? I: it good advice? Is it ethical? Is it detailed enough and researched enough to be useful and not simply considered to be "common sense?" Did you cite your sources so the reader knows where to find more information?

2) Did you apply your own interpersonal communication skills as you wrote the letter: Were you sensitive to the letter writer or the person with the problem? Were you able to explain your advice without coming across as rude or standoffish?

3) Is your paper well written? Is it grammatically correct and free from spelling errors' Is it clear? Is it well organized? Do your paragraphs have at least three sentences? Is there some kind of introduction and conclusion? Is it interesting to read?

4) Did you adhere to page restrictions? Do you have an APA title page including a running head? Is the running head on all pages of your paper? Did you include an abstract? Did you include your reference page? Is it formatted correctly?
