Length Guidelines - Your Lab Report should be 1500-1700 words.in length. If you write considerably more or less than the word limit bracket you may be penalised. Submit an electronic copy of your assignment to the Turnitin group for your class: please ensure you submit it to the correct group and to the PAPER assignment as what is submitted here is what will be marked. Late Submission: Late submissions CANNOT be submitted to Turnitin, all late submissions MUST be emailed to Academic Services to be recorded as late and then uploaded. Please include your full name, student number, module code, group number and class teachers full name in the email. DO NOT email your class teacher; they are unable to accept late submissions.

Additional Submission Guidelines: Use a standard academic font, size 12 and use 1.5 spacing between lines. Each page of your assignment should have a header with your student ID number, module code (e.g. PM502/ FC502) and the name of your class tutor. Do not write your name. All pages should be numbered. Staple all pages together.

You may be penalised according to the GIC Assessment Rules if: You submit coursework that is above the stated word limit by more than 20% the mark awarded for this assessment shall be reduced by 10% if the submission exceeds the required word length. For example if you score 60% for the assignment however you are over by 20% your score will be calculated as follows: 60 ? (10% of 60 which is 6 ) = 54% overall To calculate specific word length, all text in reference lists and appendices should be excluded. You MUST include a word count at the end of your assignment.

Criteria for Lab Report - Division of sections, overall presentation & labelling: Did your report contain all of the necessary sections; how well you presented your report including formatting and neatness; how well you labelled the diagrams, graphs and tables of your report, and if you referred to them correctly. Abstract, Introduction and Methods: How clear your abstract was and did it follow conventions; how well you wrote the introduction and used background theory in it; how clear your method was, and did it contain the necessary information required. Results, Discussion and Conclusion: How clear your results were, including organisation of tables; how in-depth your discussion was, including how much error analysis you did; how effective your conclusion was. Clarity of expression, register and referencing: Was your language clear and easy to follow; did you use the correct scientific register for the report; did you have accurate in-text citations and references where necessary.

Outstanding summary of the relevant sections in the abstract. Highly sophisticated introduction with outstanding use of background information. Logical and highly sophisticated explanation of the method. Highly sophisticated coverage of results with outstanding use of tables and graphs. Discussion has outstanding depth, with a highly sophisticated analysis of errors. Innovative conclusion.

Shows outstanding competence in all features of scientific writing style covered in class. This includes using language which express an objective view for example through use of the third person passive (particularly in the materials and methods section) use of past tense, use of scientific vocabulary and ways of representing numbers, units and symbols. Fully operational command of the written language and full awareness of style and fully appropriate use of tone, genre and register. Complete and error-free in-text and final references.
