Question :

Write a function (label EXTRACT) in MIPS assembly which assumes the values of i and j are stored in $a0 and $a1 respectively and the 32-bit value from which the field is to be extracted is stored in $a2.

It extracts the required hits and stores them in $v0. as per the requirements shown in the diagram and then returns control to the caller function.

Using the EXTRACT function from part a write function (label MY JUMP) which loads a word from a memory location stored in $a0, determines whether the word loaded is in the formal of a jump instruction (opcode - 000010), if it is in the format of a jump, then using the destination address of the jump instruction and the address stored in $ra as the base address (similar to the PC value in the regular jump instruction) perform a jump to the desired address.

Otherwise the function simply returns control to the caller.
