For this assignment, you will be asked to present a critical appraisal of recent media articles related to ONE of the following areas:
1. Cancer
2. Metabolic disease, including MetS, obesity and diabetes.
3. Cardiovascular disease
This assignment's main objective is to define whether mainstream media accurately relays scientific information to the public. There are a few steps in this assignment.
Step 1:
Select an area of interest for this assignment - cancer, metabolic disease, or CVD. For this assignment, you will be working on one area only.
Step 2:
Find a recent (2017 and later) mainstream media article that looks at particular aspects of the selected topic. Here are the topics for each NCD.
1. Cancer.
How popular media articles talk about the causes of cancer.
2. Metabolic disease.
How popular media articles demonstrate the relationship between main macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fat) and metabolic diseases (metabolic syndrome, obesity and diabetes).
3. CVD.
How popular media articles demonstrate effective ways to prevent cardiovascular disease.

Step 3:
Write a critical analysis of the selected media article analyzing their sources of information and their conclusions. What do you think about the messages they provide? What is your opinion on the issue they discuss? Support your findings with peer-reviewed articles and class information you have learned during this semester.
Use 3 to 5 peer-reviewed articles. You can access them via the Langara library. Your project paper should be no longer than five pages typed in Times New Roman font, size 12, 1.5 line space.
Step 4:
Imagine you have to present the article and your report to your colleagues. Create a PowerPoint presentation that will highlight the main points of your report with conclusions. Your presentation will be no more than 15 slides.
