In the Women's Services Dept of the organization I work we participate in a High Reliability Unit (HRU). This unit meets monthly. All members of the Women's Dept and other Dept members that have shared interdisciplinary collaboration are expected to participate; this consists of the Physicians, Management, and Staff from, L&D, PP, NSY, NICU, Respiratory Therapy and the Quality Improvement Dept. There is a Physician Chair and a Nurse Co-Chair of the HRU.

These positions re-open each year, to allow for new participation. Each month the Unit Audits, Mock Codes and Stats are shared, which consist of the Prenatal National Patients Safety Goals, a recent Department Case Review is presented and an EBP article is reviewed by a volunteer staff nurse member. We have seen an increase in trends to our departmental NPSG's and patient satisfaction. We also had participated in a departmental training to "STOP THE LINE" program. This empowers staff to stand up against wrongs and help to create a Just Culture.

"High reliability organizations place emphasis on strategies to develop a just culture in which practitioners are encouraged to report errors and concerns free from blame, humiliation, and retaliation"(Friberg&Creasia, 2016, pp 346).
Using the approach of a High Reliability Organization in Health Care has proven to improve the Organization's effectiveness, efficiency, customer satisfaction, compliance, organizational culture and documentation ("High Reliability: The Gold Standard in Health Care," 2016).
