Write a case study on the impact of ICTs/Information Systems on society for the topic - VIRTUAL COMMUNITY.

Identify a case study that demonstrates one of the key themes taught during the module. Relevant examples might include how social media was used during a disaster, a digital activist campaign, the use of digital media to enhance student learning, or how corporations have developed information systems to maximise their profits.

The report should be structured as follows:

1) Describe your case study and how ICTs/Information systems were used (500 words).

2) Analyse the factors that determined their adoption (750 words).

3) Discuss how the key affordances of ICTs/Information Systems affected outcomes in your case study (1,000).

4) Reflect on the broader implications of your case study for the Information Society i.e. was your case study a one-off or does it illustrate how other individuals/groups have benefited from ICTs/information systems? (750 words).

The task is designed to encourage critical reflection on the impact of ICTs/information systems on contemporary societies. Students should refer to at least 12 academic sources in the report and are encouraged to use news media and online sources (e.g. blogs, social media, websites) to provide background for their case study.

It has a 3,000 word count limit (excluding references and the four headings listed above).
