Task One:

Summarize at least 4 methods of measuring temperature. Only one of these methods may be one that was discussed in class. At least one of these methods must be suitable for measuring the temperature of a solid. For each method of measurement, provide:

1.      A description (in sentences and paragraphs, please) of the fundamental physics underlying the measurement;

2.      An equation or equations that represent the physics underlying the measurement (make sure all terms are defined);

3.      A sketch/figure/drawing supporting the description/equation(s) above (you may copy or adapt your figure from an appropriate source, with proper formatting and citation!);

4.      A description of the range, precision, & accuracy of a specific manufacturer's instrument utilizing this type of measurement;

5.      Advantages of this type of measurement (at least 2);

6.      Disadvantages of this type of measurement (at least 2); and

7.      Answer: If the measurement does not directly generate an electrical signal, how might it be transduced into a voltage, current, or capacitance? (These answers may include equations, may be descriptive, but MAY require you to provide a sketch or figure.

8.      (optional - additional information of interest)

Task Two

Repeat Task 1, but for 4 methods of measuring fluid pressure. At least one method must be suitable for measuring liquid pressure, and at least one method must be suitable for measuring gas phase pressures below 100 Torr.

Task Three

Repeat Task 1, but for but for three methods of measuring flow rate (molar, volumetric and/or mass). At least one method must be suitable for measuring liquid flow and at least one method must be suitable for measuring gas flow.

Task Four

Repeat Task 1, for two methods of measuring concentration (neither will have been discussed in class.
