Problem: One of the arguments in the textbook against ethical egoism focuses on whether it is consistent to believe in and simultaneously advocate for the theory. In brief, if a person believes in ethical egoism, they would never encourage other people to believe this theory. In fact, they might encourage other people to be altruists while remaining ethical egoists themselves. This is because encouraging other people to be ethical egoists would lead them to pursue their own interests and not serve the interests of the first person advocating for the view.
