Assignment:

You own and operate a business selling fishing and hunting gear that employs 10 people. There is a road project planned in your community that many people support because it will replace a section of highway that has been the site of several deadly accidents due to poor design. Others oppose the project because it will cut off access to a popular recreational fishing area.

About 12% of your sales can be directly attributed to this fishing area and the loss of this much business will force you to lay off two of your employees. Both employees and customers are encouraging you to run a local ad campaign opposing the development as planned and calling for a different design that will not block access to the fishing area.

You already know the existing road project is the safest option and any alternative plan would be much more expensive to taxpayers.

Given your knowledge, would it still be appropriate for you to run an ad campaign opposing it in order to protect your business and employees? (Note: this is not asking whether you would do it or not, just whether it is a morally legitimate choice). Use the Four-part answer model.

1. State your answer concerning what should happen or what is the right policy in the first sentence.

-Do not use terms like "I believe" or "in my opinion."

2. Give your reason(s) in defence of your answer.

-A complete reason is a statement or set of statements that together makes your conclusion follow.

3. State an opposing answer and the reason one would appeal to support that answer.

4. Explain what is wrong with the opposing answer (Think of Mary's response to Bill's argument).
