Would Asoka make a good ruler today? Why or why not?

Asoka had it rough in the beginning and he did have a bloody past. But I think he once he turned it around and started thinking more of the people, then the people saw the good in him. Since we all know he knows how to fight and also look out for the people he would be a good ruler for today. We need someone that will not be afraid to fight for the people. Just reading about the little things he did for his people like putting up rest areas for people who are traveling. That shows he's a good person.
