Question

An NP who works in a skilled nursing facility wants to have a discussion with the family of a resident who is declining. The resident does not currently have an advanced directive in place. Propose a statement that demonstrates that the NP understands advanced directives. I will write an Allow Natural Death order. I will ask the director of nursing to write the DNR order. I will order hospice because the family does not want to sign an advanced directive at this time. I will discuss the advanced directive with my collaborating physician.
