Activity 1
In groups of two-four please do the following
1. Research 2-4 examples of how anti- discrimination and equal opportunity legislation may apply outside of the workplace.
2. Look at the following scenarios and research which legislation you think would apply.
- A woman alleged that she had been requested to provide details on an employment application form about her date of birth, medical history, marital status, number of children and the ages of her children.
- A manager decided to change staff rosters to better suit the organisation. When the complainant explained she had already arranged child care to suit her current roster and may not be able to rearrange it, the manager told her that it was not her problem and if she couldn't make child care changes she would lose her job.
- A woman who speaks with a strong accent was called wogand whore and told to go home over a work radio channel. The woman obtained a Peace and Good Behaviour Order against the man who was making the comments. Shortly after the Order the man announced over the CB radio to give the woman as much sh*t as you like. The man also broadcast the woman's address as a place to go for sex.
