Workplace conflict intersects with value-based conflict in many ways. Whether experiencing conflict personally or professionally, values play a large part in how it affects us and our perspective on the issues. Jandt (2021) identifies Affection, process, and substantive conflict within workplace conflict (p. 228). Affection deals with personal harm; process deals with preference; and substantive deals with ethics and policy. Each of these can be coined as value-based. An example of one of these is when an employee feels that both parents should equally be given maternity leave when an employer has a policy to limit longer leave to just the female parent. This could impact a person's perspective on equality and the importance of both parents. This could create a conflict within the organization regarding a personal concern. Debby et al. (2020) point out that unique online characteristics such as e-negotiations are more effective, reduce social pressure, and are less preferred, given the analysis that e-negotiations are more successful (p.8). Jandt (2021) discusses values-based conflict and certain criteria such as body language, speed of correctness, and gaining more detailed views as complicated to do online but are more easily facilitated face-to-face (p. 247).
