A 56-year-old woman presents for epigastric pain described as "heartburn." She is alert, oriented to person, place, and time and does not appear intoxicated. Evaluation, including electrocardiography, reveals a ST elevation myocardial infarction. Cardiac catheterization and primary percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty are advised. The patient does not believe your diagnosis and insists that her pain is only due to "indigestion." She refuses cardiac catheterization. is true regarding refusal of medical care?
