This is something I have witnessed happening in the emergency department of my workplace. We have a system that enables us to contact and obtain a translation in a specific language. The rejection of cultural beliefs by healthcare programs can be seen in this way. However, I am of the opinion that this is not intentional. Despite the difficulties involved in learning another language, I feel it is essential in healthcare. The patient's experience can be improved by having someone who can speak the patient's language. Imagine how they feel without being able to express their emotions. Not being able to obtain all the necessary information is a risk when making a diagnosis.
