1. Choose a business process from an interaction that you've encountered in life, e.g. a process you have executed at work, been through at school, or experienced as a customer or client. A few possible ones are things like ordering products from Amazon, ordering an Uber, or taking a dinner order as a server. The process should have at least two separate participants (lanes) and be complex enough to produce a detailed diagram and allow for analysis and modification.
2. Use Business Process Modeling Notation to create a diagram showing the process. With your diagram please state the targeted audience (e.g. store manager, customer, bank teller, staff training material, etc...) for the diagram in order to define the desired level of detail and scope (~1 sentence).
3. Identify an issue or potential place for improvement in the process.
4. Describe the changes you would make to the process to make it more efficient, more user friendly, or just better. In your description identify the Business Pressures that are being exerted on the process (~1 paragraph).
5. Identify if the changes that you've proposed fall under BPI or BPR; describe why they the characterization you've selected is the appropriate one (~1 sentence)
6. Revise your Step 2 diagram to include the changes you've proposed.
Note: You're diagramming the before and after of one process, after your chosen improvements are made to that process. You're not creating a simple diagram, then improving the BPMN itself. It isn't a rough copy/good copy change, it is a good copy of both the existing process and the updated process.
