Our exploration of the universal pursuit of wisdom has shown that this quest can entail diverse approaches. Yet, beneath the cultural disparities, there are also important convergences suggesting greater coherence in perspective. Here are two approaches to the wisdom shared by the various religious and philosophical traditions we have covered in this course:

1. Wisdom teaches us to overcome our egotism (humility)

2. Wisdom curbs our greed for worldly fame and material riches (anti-materialism)

One of these two central "themes" will appear on the final exam prompt. Your reflection must be based on the specific views and beliefs, concerning the theme you have chosen, from three traditions or thinkers we have studied. This is not an occasion to convey your personal opinions; it is an opportunity to demonstrate how well you understand the course material, and how well you can apply it to a broader theme.
