Retribution is the main theme to William Shakespeare's Hamlet. More interestingly Shakespeare's characters have a certain subtly regarding individual efforts in the ascertainment of their convictions. Knowing first hand, the death of one's father is an extremely daunting and confusing time in life. One must go through a period of soul searching and reflection. In order to accept the fact that someone once held so dear to one's heart is now gone; it is so final. In Hamlet's case, the ghost of his murdered father clearly explained to him that his uncle was the one to blame. Hamlet's rage and suspicions towards his uncle are absolutely understandable. Act II, Scene ii of Hamlet is a great demonstration of how Shakespeare gives his characters motives and sets up the beginning of the end to one of the most famous tragedies in history.
