Question: Lurie Children's Hospital was reportedly the target of a cybersecurity attack, causing a network outage and disruption to phone services. As a result, many non-critical surgeries had to be delayed or canceled. This has also resulted not being able to carry out diagnostic tests through their equipment. Doctors and nurses have also had to chart and write prescriptions with pen and paper. It's crazy the things people will do for money, I can't imagine how desperate someone needs to be to target a hospital of all places for an attack. The second article from ABC noted that hospitals are an easy target, they often don't have high levels of security, patient information is valuable, and they are more likely to pay a ransom knowing that patient's live are on the line. I can imagine the level of patient care drops significantly when doctors can't preform imaging tests, have to spend more time manually documenting, and the overall system is in chaos. That all being said, If hospitals can't afford to improve their security, will we see even more of these attacks in the future?
