The following are the exercises to practice how to run t-tests and ANOVA using SPSS as addressed in the lecture notes.
Question I. A local dieting support group is approached, and 32 members, all of whom are at least 20% overweight and agree to participate in the study, are randomly selected. The participants, 17 male dieters and 15 female dieters, are followed over a three month period to see how much weight they lose.
Data is listed in table 5-1 (textbook page 97). The procedure for computing the t-test using SPSS is also shown in Box 5-3 and Week 7 lecture notes as well. Using SPSS, answer this research question (submit a summary of results and SPSS output).
Will male dieters lose more weight over a 3-month period than female dieters? What do your result indicate?
Question II. A social researcher is interested in understanding the effect of college education on wages. Listed below are the hourly wages for two groups of employees all working in the same position at a particular technology firm. The workers in one group have earned an associate's degree while members of the other group hold at least a bachelor's degree. Please answer the following research question using a SPSS program (submit a summary of results and SPSS output).
What is the difference in hourly wages of employees with an associate's degree and those with a bachelor's degree? What do your result indicate?

Question III. The Center for Study of Violence wants to determine whether a conflict-resolution program in a particular high school alters aggressive behavior among its students. For 10 students, aggression was measured both before and after they participated in the conflict-resolution course (submit a summary of results and SPSS output). Their scores were the following (highest scores indicate greater aggressiveness).
