Design and Built Environment Sustainable Construction Materials
Report - The Assessment
Learning Outcome 1: Characterise properties of different building materials and their application in building construction. Your task is to identify one building material.
Learning Outcome 2: Analyse how and why your selected material degrades in the built environment.
Learning Outcome 3: Assess the environmental impacts associated with your selected building materials for construction.
The Project
A circular economy transcends the traditional natural resource and waste intensive take-make- dispose economic model. In circular economy natural resources are kept in circulation. This creates new economic opportunities and employment and has significant environmental co-benefits. In addition, it helps conserve natural resources and reduces emissions and waste. The age of the circular economy is coming, and the built environment has a substantive opportunity to contribute to its development in Australia.
In your report you will investigate a building material used in construction and investigate its potential to be recycled. By reviewing the materials properties, durability and environmental impacts consider how the material can be recycled and not disposed of as waste. In your discussion consider how one building material can be recycled or reused in building or another industry such as manufacturing.
Your report should have the following sections.
Introduction
Briefly introduce the material and what you are going to cover.
Research to identify the technical information.
Information obtained from your research related to your selected topic.
Discussion
Discussion on information found with arguments drawn from this information on how.
Conclusions
Briefly summarize the key findings of the report
