Why do you think the US is such a predominantly monolingual country? There are plenty of immigrants in the USA, but regardless of that majority of Americans born in the US do not have any mastery in any language other than English. Do you think it is a positive thing? Should government encourage Americans to learn other languages? If yes, which languages do you think the government should emphasize? Which reasons should the government use use encourage second language learning? If you think that the knowledge of second language is not necessary and should not be explicitly encouraged by the government, argue for your position as well.
