Demonstrators marched in the streets and gathered outside major government buildings. The government responded to the demonstrations; the police used tear gas to disperse the crowds and arrested many demonstrators. Later, a semi-independent national court ruled that the demonstrators had assembled illegally and engaged in riot, violating national laws.
