Assignment: Now that have practiced with Sufi poetry and gained insight into Islamic art, are going to put the two ideas together in order to compare and analyze similar themes in two different artistic mediums: art and poetry, select a Sufi poem-choose a quatrain or ode written by Rumi. Then, will determine the theme of the poem. Next, will find a work of Islamic art that shares the theme of the chosen poem. Finally, will about why you believe the chosen work of art shares the theme of your poem. Detailed steps are written below.

Follow the steps below in order to have a completed assignment.

Step 1: Select an ode or a quatrain by Rumi that we have not read in class.

Step 2: Summarize the chosen poem and include what you think the theme is-use proof (a line) from the poem to support your opinion of the theme.

Step 3: Find a work of Islamic art that you feel shares the same theme as your poem. Copy and paste the image into your document.

Step 4: Explain in a few sentences why you believe the particular work of art shares the theme of your poem.

Step 5: Make sure all of the above information is included in some form of PowerPoint, Prezi, or Word Document and submit it when complete.

Grading Criteria

Poem is summarized extensively, theme is chosen, and proof is included
Islamic art clearly shares the same theme as the poem
The explanation of the shared theme is clear and precise
The assignment is free of all grammar and mechanical errors.
